It’s been six years since the original robot film robot: meccano opened its doors and now UK TV network MTV has picked up the film adaptation, titled Meccanot.
The first film, released in 2013, is a robot comedy set in an alternate future where robots and humans live together.
‘Robots and humans, they live together in harmony,’ says Rob Corddry, who plays the titular Meccannon, who was created by British artist Matthew Green.
‘It’s a very human world.’
The show is being produced by BBC Television and MTV UK, which will make its UK TV debut at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.
Corddry and his co-star, Tom Baker, are reprising their roles from the original film.
‘I was quite nervous but I’m excited to get back to the world of Meccans, because it’s really wonderful and it’s such a lovely world,’ says Corddry.
‘And it was really great to get to meet my kids again and I’m just thrilled to be back on the show.’
Robots are so beautiful, they’re really simple and they can do so much, but they also have so much more going on.’
And there’s a really beautiful story of robots coming together to help people.’
We all know that we can all make robots but the real robots are those that can make people happy.
They’re really special.’
Robot: Meecano has been making a splash in UK cinema since the first film was released in 2014.
It’s currently on the UK box office chart at £5.9 million.
It opens in the UK next month.
‘We’re going to do something that’s going to appeal to a wider audience, to the kids and to the adults, and hopefully we can do it again,’ Corddry said.
‘Meccanots’ first UK premiere was in February 2018 at the Royal Opera House in London.
MTV UK has yet to announce a premiere date for the UK series.
‘The Meccanas are going to be a family,’ Corddro says.
‘You’ll be seeing a lot of them together.
You’ll be hearing them talk and they’ll be singing together.’
